The “New” Court System

The recent budget cuts regarding the New York State court system has had overwhelmingly negative effects. I have been on three trials since the budget cuts, and have experienced first-hand many of the consequences related to the firing of courthouse personnel, says Alan Ripka, Esquire.

It wasn’t as if the justice system ran expeditiously before the changes. Now, with many personnel let go, the wheels of justice grind at a slower pace. This is primarily because the staffing cannot begin early or end late. In fact, the elevators are not open until 9:15 a.m., and at this time a line has gathered in and around the courthouse. This causes the court parts to start later. Many Magistrates and JHOs have been eliminated, so judges no longer have support for meetings, conferences, and rulings that moved things along. Towards the end of the day, the court officers and staff close promptly at 4:30 p.m. so that all employees can leave building by 5:00 p.m. so that there is no OVERTIME.

In the cost benefit analysis of this slashing, everyone loses. The American justice system is sacred and should be revered. Knowingly alienating all that run the system – jurors, lawyers, and litigants – is the first step in making it more difficult to utilize the civilized justice system, claims Alan Ripka, Esquire. Citizens are likely to take matters into their own hands as a result of not having a forum in which to resolve disputes, Alan Ripka says further. There is no freedom without law, and there is no justice without operating courthouses. Despite all of this we must continue to believe that the American justice system will serve us unconditionally. Having the right attorney, who can still navigate through even further trial obstacles, is why you hire Alan Ripka.
